Departure from Sulmona
The day begins with a hearty breakfast at Stella CasaBono in Sulmona. After that, the five guests board our van to begin their day trip to the Marsica.
First stop: Cocullo
The first stop is Cocullo, a small village known for its Madonna del Soccorso festival, during which worshippers carry a live snake in procession. The Swiss tourists have the opportunity to visit the village's historic center and admire the church of Santa Maria in Cocullo, dating back to the 12th century.
Second stop: Santa Maria in Perclaneto
The second stop is Santa Maria in Perclaneto, an ancient church located in Rosciolo, a hamlet of Magliano dei Marsi. The church is an example of Byzantine architecture and dates back to the 9th century. The Swiss tourists have the opportunity to admire the church's splendid interior, richly decorated with frescoes and mosaics.
Third stop: Alba Fucens
The third stop is Alba Fucens, an ancient Roman city located at an altitude of about 1,000 meters. The tourists visit the remains of the amphitheater, the temple of Apollo, and other buildings of the ancient city.
Fourth stop: Celano
The fourth stop is Celano, a medieval village dominated by the Piccolomini Castle, one of the largest castles in Abruzzo. The tourists visit the castle and the village's historic center.
Fifth stop: Aielli
The fifth stop is Aielli, a village known for its murals, created by artists from all over the world. The tourists visit the village's historic center and admire the murals.
Return to Sulmona
The day ends with the return to Sulmona. The Swiss tourists are satisfied with the trip, which allowed them to discover the beauty of the Marsica.
